The Republic of Mira
Yesterday, the whole Made of Stills crew had a rendez-vous at Dan Popa’s “The Republic of Mira” exhibition at the SNAP! Salon.
We were lucky to host one of Dan’s pieces at the studio and it was nice to see the whole exhibit as every piece had a soul of its own. Every board is a collage of elements taken from old Eastern European countries travel flyers, creating a Republic that never existed. They were compiled through the travels of the artist’s grandmother. It evokes both family and history, adding another depth of signification to the show. The artist has also created a video and has collected different elements in an installation showcasing objects from the daily life in the Republic.

The Republic of Mira proposes a reflection on the rise and fall of a republic that never existed. The exposition consists of a series of hand made collages inspired by various promotional documents from the old Soviet Union Bloc.
